Tweets are normally not preserved and are normally not read after some time. Twitter tweets normally represents the top common interest of the twitter users at a certain point in time, and after some time they are no longer important to anyone.
However, if the tweets are from someone you follow, then it becomes a lot more than a bunch of words. You want to go back to your timeline (if you are following that twitter account) to read those tweets since those words mean so much to you. You use these tweets in your arguments with your friends and just talk about it. These tweets become the point of conversation when you meet at some place or just have a conversation online.
